Steven- An Average teenage boy
Kathrina Willmota- An Average teenage girl
Percy- A well-educated giraffe
Herclatus- A mumbling philosopher
( The scene opens with one lone character standing at center stage, in the midst of a open field. To his left is an elderly man, of the age of approximately 70, nude and being crucified upside down on a golden cross. In the background lies a large tree on top of a monolithic hill. Hung from the tree is some object, clearly in sight to the audience yet the audience is unaware of what it is. To the right is a wingless bird watching a group of turtles fly.
Steven- (to himself) What a true mystery is life. I often wonder if I am the only eternal being; the sole static creature amongst a myriad of dynamic flow. Like a stagnant boat floating on an every changing sea. Oh! What majesty is this, what overwhelming emptiness?
(A light appears from the sky accompanied by a booming voice)
God- Steven, do not fret my son for the answer to all your questions is simply…
Steven (interrupting)- Damnit God, you always seem to ruin my brilliant soliloquies. It seems as if all you desire is to mettle in the lives of us Humans. What utter poppycock!
God (in despair)- Sorry…
(The light then disappears, as does the booming voice)
Steven- So anyway, where was I?
Steven- I do believe you were on the subject of existence.
Steven- Oh of course. Why thank you Steven. Sometimes I do believe you are the only helpful organism on this blessed planet.
Steven- You are far too kind sure.
Kathrina- (coughs)
Steven- Kathrina, you fine lass, I sincerely apologize. In my fit of useless balderdash I did not even recognize your arrival.
Kathrina- Oh Steven, you are far too hard on yourself. And you do know I love to listen to your valuable contemplations.
Steven- Now, now, Kathrina. There is no need to add to my already over flowing ego. Why have you come alone? Where is that troll of a man you call a suitor?
Kathrina- Xpian? He went to go play with some rope by the tree. Such a strange man he can be, always depressed.
Steven- What a shame that is. I fathom much in this world, yet I have not the ability to understand man’s need to feel sadness. What do you think Percy?
Percy- ЩЦЭЮП ЏώДЂ йфхяњљ ђ•‡†
Steven- What a brilliant intellect you are Percy. Some day I do wish my intelligence can match a small portion of yours. So Kathrina, why have you come and disrupted my meditations?
Kathrina- I thought you might accompany me on an adventure.
Steven- Adventure? Where to?
Kathrina (pauses)- To where?
Steven- Certainly not there.
Kathrina- But then to where?
Steven- I do believe you were the one that suggested an adventure, therefore it is your duty to decide a destination.
Kathrina-Then to Reykjavik we go.
Steven- Reykjavik? You truly believe we could find Reykjavik?
Kathrina- well why not? I do know you can not find it on a quest by yourself, but as two intelligent individuals I certainly view it as a possibility.
Steven- Good point. I do believe it would be this way. (points at ground) Follow me!
Kathrina- Oh Steven, you are ever so brilliant, I would have never thought of that. This journey will be great.
(Both actors start to walk in place, yet not moving across the stage yet remaining at the same position. Hours pass with little to no action except for the actors walking.)
Kathrina- Steven you seem to have a problem, may I ask what is wrong?
Steven-I…you see….it’s just. Do you believe this has a point? When you insisted on an adventure what did you specifically have in mind?
Kathrina- To reach our destination of course, what other purpose could there possible be?
Steven- This is what I am questioning. Maybe you never truly wanted to find Reykjavik; possible your only inspiration was the journey itself.
Kathrina- You do worry to much Steven. Always over analyzing things. Simply live life, enjoy the journey.
Steven- I guess you are right.
(A man appears in the background.)
Herclatus- Now as I step into this river, with removal followed by reinsertion, do I enter the same river? Of course not, it’s existence has completely changed, It is a new river entirely and as..(walks off stage continuing his speech. Steven and Kathrina appear to never notice his attendance. A few more hours pass without action.)
Now at sunset:
Steven- I do believe that I have confirmed my belief; this journey was never about anything except the journey itself, adventure for adventure sake.
Kathrina- Settle down Steven. You are always ruining things with your thoughts. Just enjoy this sunset. It is beautiful isn’t it?
Steven- I must agree. There is no feeling quite like the ecstasy of experiencing a sunset with a member of the opposite sex. It is the most pure occurrence in life. (the two embrace until the sunset ends) I do like sunsets. Let’s not fret about not reaching Reykjavic, let’s have more sunsets. What do you think Percy?
Percy- ЩЦЭЮП ЏώДЂ йфхяњљ ђ•‡†
Steven- Percy you’re a dick.
(The play ends with the two characters morphing into one single being. The curtain falls. The end.)
